OR THE OPENING AND WALKING
THE TRUE ROAD TO LIFE.
Isaiah, lxii, 10, 11.
Go through, go through the gates; prepare ye the way of the people; cast up, cast up the high way; gather out the stones, lift up a standard for the people. Behold the Lord hath proclaimed unto the end of the world; Say ye to the daughters of Zion: Behold thy salvation cometh.
Jeremiah vi, 16,17.
Thus sayeth the Lord, stand ye in the ways, and see and ask for the old paths, where is the good way and walk therein, and you shall, find rest for your souls: but they say, we will not walk therein. Also I set watchmen over you, saying, hearken to the sound of the trumpet: but they say we will not hearken—here consult also Jeremiah vii,- 23, 24.
Jeremiah i, 4, 5, 6.
In those days and in that time, sayeth the Lord, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: they shall go and seek the Lord their God. They shall ask the way to Zion, with their faces thitherwards, (saying) come and let us join ourselves to the Lord, in a perpetual covenant, that shall not be forgotten. My people hath been lost sheep, their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their resting place.
Jeremiah xxxi, 2.
The people which were left of the sword, found grace in the wilderness: even Israel when I went to cause him to rest.
Luth Tom 1. Ep. ad Gal.
Without this way, which is Christ you will never find the way to the Father, but all errors and seduction; no truth, but all hypocrisy and lies; no life, but death and damnation.
Mankind have invented and made many hundred ways to heaven, whereas there is nevertheless no other than the new and living way through the blood of Jesus, Hebr. X. 19, 20. in the order of penitence and faith.
