5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
As I was sitting on the plane flying into Hanoi, these verses were continually on my mind. I was very worried about if I would make my flight connection in time. Right before ‘checking in’ that morning I was told my the staff that I would need to purchase a visa in order to be able to transfer to my connecting flight in Ho Chi Min City. I didn’t Know that I was going there at all. I had to search on the internet to find a place to buy one. It didn’t look very trustworthy to me at all, but with no choices, I purchased the visa and then had to wait for it to be emailed to me. It took about 50 minutes in all to receive it and then print it and rush back to the check in counter.
I was relieved after checking in but then began to worry about every thing, “would I have enough time to do this VISA stuff and still make my connecting flight?”, “was I actually ripped off by this VISA website?”, “Would I need to buy another ticket if I missed my flight?”.
At this time I remember the words of Heb 13: 5-6 “I will never leave you nor forsake you” – that’s the promise God has given us – “So we can confidently say, “the LORD is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”” – This is how we can respond to God’s promise… with “CONFIDENCE” – God will help me!! – therefore I will “NOT FEAR!”, after all “what can man do to me?” – Absolutely nothing when my God is with me! These words removed my fear and gave me hope! Every time my fear would rise, these words would rise over it.
So what happened? The VISA website had a man waiting to help me with the process, he did the paper work, took me to the right place after immigration, and saw me off at the Gate. I’m currently at Ho Chi Min city after a 2hr plane ride from Hanoi, I met some Christians from Aubury and another place below Sydney, and I can look back and see that God has been with me from the beginning of this process… packing my old immigration photos in Okinawa, God blessing me with a little bit of money in Tokyo, even my determination to sleep that night in Narita Airport… It was all being worked out for me when I didn’t even know it.
Key points to remember:
* God is with you when you don’t know it.
* Be confident in the LORD.
* Don’t fear men.
